Pictures Summer Uniform/Epic Fail

See in my mind I saw something totally different.

Okay I’m gonna say it.

My summer uniform is a shapeless sack. I snapped a few pictures as my sister was in a fun mood. I look at them an 2 things stood out. Whew I’ve packed on the pounds and these dresses have no shape at all to them.

I love the colors I love the tiers but they are a tent like structure meaning none. Awe geeze well here’s the thing I still like them and I need to focus on my health and put down the carbs.

Wearing something just because I want to. Even though it’s unflattering is a new area for me. Maybe I should return them all. I probably won’t but maybe.

I could see bike shorts, peddle pushers or denim walk shorts underneath.

Honest comments are welcome. I already know. But your comments & feedback will All be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I think they are cute and you look awesome in the colors! The tiers help keep them from being shapeless. The only thing that would bother me if I were wearing them might be the seam right at the bust. I feel like it should be lower, like the top half of the dress isn’t long enough and I’d worry that it’s going to keep riding up. I just got a dress like this and I managed to shrink it in the wash so now I’m having that problem. If you return any, I vote to keep the bright ones because they’re the most fun.

I like your dresses - black, navy as a dressier options ( dark colors usually are ), olive - as everyday dress, orange and yellow - for a little "pick me up" feeling  ;) .

  • MsMaven replied 3 years ago

I like the bright colors on you, however the quieter navy seems to fit you best, the line is below the bust, not on it. The olive seems a little too small.

At a second look, I like the orange one best because you seem so happy wearing it.

The most important issue to me is how you feel in each dress.

  • Bijou replied 3 years ago

Ledonna, I looked at the pictures first and thought you looked FAB, because it is you - you are like a ray of sunshine and just thoroughly gorgeous. However, like Gillian Pearl I don't like how the dress fits over your bust and vote return because you can do better, even if this is just a house dress.

  • Synne replied 3 years ago

The stronger colours needs some friends, like big bright earrings or a headband IMO. Love the purple dress, that's my favourite color on you. I think the dresses looks cute!

  • Sally replied 3 years ago

The navy one, the orange one, the yellow and the black seem to sit better than the olive one as the seam on those are below the bust.  I would definitely keep at least the navy one as I think it is really pretty on you.

  • rachylou replied 3 years ago

The olive does seem to be riding up, but honestly I think you look just like the stock pics. Maybe it’s really just you that’s fun and lively, but the dresses seem fun and spunky to me. My favourite is the yellow. It’s true tho that material doesn’t have what I’d call ‘body.’ Spray starch?

  • Brooklyn replied 3 years ago

Super cute look. It’s meant to be a breezy look, and I think it suits you very well. I like the navy and black the best. Like GP, I would be concerned about the seam line across the bust, and the tendency for the dress to ride up (most evident on the olive dress).

  • notsaf replied 3 years ago

Agreeing with others about liking the dark colors especially!

  • fin42 replied 3 years ago

I think the colours look great on you. If I'm honest I think the neckline is a bit boring but that is easily remedied with a necklace or something.

  • RobinF replied 3 years ago

I quite like these! I agree that the bust seam riding up would be annoying, is that a problem or is that just in the picture of the olive one? And if they shrink in the wash would that be worse? Otherwise I think they are great, casual summer dresses.

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

My response has disappeared. I agree with RobinF. I like the quiet navy best although the bright colors are fab on you and will blend with your colorful head wraps

  • Angie replied 3 years ago

    What Bijou and Brooklyn said.

YOU ARE ROCKING THIS STYLE OF DRESS, and have styled it to Ledonna perfection. LOVE the sneaks and head gear support act! I knew you would take the dress to the next level :)

Perhaps try a size up to lower the bust seam?

That said, I don't think the tier placement on the bust is a train smash because it seems to drape well, and especially in the dark colours.

  • Helena replied 3 years ago

Yep, nodding along with above, I see no epic fail here, just a relaxed casual style, and agreeing that the darker colours in particular work really well - not that you don't wear the bright colours well (you definitely do) but the darker colours make the dress look a little sleeker or something.

All that to say I think you are being too hard on yourself! YLF.

  • replied 3 years ago

I really like the tiers! I prefer the blue gray and black colors :) Sneaks are cute addition!

  • Echo replied 3 years ago

I keep looking for an epic fail, and I can't find one. These dresses are meant to be loose and airy for summer, not tight and structured. You look amazing in them! As others have mentioned, the only thing I'd change would be to lower the bust seam a bit, otherwise these look just how trapeze dresses are supposed to look!

  • JillG replied 3 years ago

I wonder if this is a case different colors of the same style being cut just a little smaller or larger.  You could try flat laying the dresses on top of each other to compare shoulder/bust seams.  My guess is that the olive is cut a bit smaller on top than the other colors.  .

That said, this is a cute style on you and I like the breezy look.

  • Scarlet replied 3 years ago

I think you look cute. The only thing I noticed in trying to be critical is the placement of the bust seam, as I see others have mentioned. I have been eyeing a similar dress style in linen. Angling for a sale. I think a "tent" like dress is great for hot summers, and your legs and arms give it structure.

  • replied 3 years ago

Adorable, and I did not notice the bust seam myself. The high neckline makes them practical for all the leaning over in child care and I like the bike short idea too.

  • Suz replied 3 years ago

I think this is a brilliant summer uniform and you look adorable. As Angie said, the styling with sneakers and headgear is perfect "you." Running around after a toddler in one of these would be (almost) easy. :)

I agree with what others are saying about the bust seam placement. I am wondering if these are available in a tall. Because maybe it is not the size, per se, but the proportion that is a bit off for you? Worth checking into, maybe.

I love the brights on you but also the navy.

  • Jaime replied 3 years ago

Definitely not an epic fail, but I did notice the top seam was too high. Not a disaster but not ideal. There is no question in my mind you could style these up beautifully.

  • Debbie replied 3 years ago

I think they are fun summer dresses. The love one was the only one that bothered me. Please keep at least the navy one. It looks amazing on you.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 3 years ago

Well, Ledonna, this just proves that you can style even what you call a "shapeless sack"! (I disagree--to me, these dresses do have a fun shape, with their tiers.) You look carefree and stylish in them, with your great smile, and if you feel as good as all that in them, I say keep. You are right, you can add bike shorts or pants for a different look and feel if you want. You are a genius at styling. It's disappointing, though, when something isn't what you pictured. If you continue to feel disappointment, then I would say honor your feeling and keep looking for your summer uniform.

  • Minaminu replied 3 years ago

Agree that you rock this dresses as well as there is something off in the placement of the bust seam, I like the concept and the chosen colours, maybe in the dress that Scarlet suggested?

  • Glory replied 3 years ago

I quite like these on you and also like the idea of an easy summer uniform. With these  you can add your style with head wraps and shoes.    Pretty darn good for your life style running around after your darling.

In the heat a sack style dress is quite wonderful and I have a few friends who live in them all summer.

  • madeline replied 3 years ago

I don’t have much to add that hasn’t already been said. But I love them all. I agree that the brighter ones where the bust seam is noticeable could be exchanged for a size that moves the seam down. Otherwise you are certainly on the right track for a summer uniform Not a fail at all! Well done! Bring it on Chicago summer!

  • Zaeobi replied 3 years ago

My response has also disappeared. Agree with others re: the seam placement. The yellow is my favourite one, though - works well with your complexion & sunny personality! :D

I'd suggest trying to cinch the dress with a fabric belt (just a strip of material really, no need for anything bulky) just to see where exactly you would prefer the seam to go instead. Obviously you can't undo the current seams (belting just for experimentational analysis, not for wearing out) but this would be useful knowledge for future shopping trips & better understanding your body.

Therefore, please be kinder to yourself Ledonna - it's not you, it's the clothes!

  • Runcarla replied 3 years ago

You are on to something, Ledonna.  Much love for the solid brights, the flirty dress style, sneakers and a signature head wrap.  You might experiment with bras (if you have different styles) to see if that changes where that top seam falls.

  • Deborah replied 3 years ago

First I think the olive one has just ridden up as you were posing and moving about. I think this a great dress to throw on and go. It’s simple, feminine and will be comfy for summer. They look great with sneakers and I think you could have fun with accessories! And you will get no argument from me on shapeless styles...I love them x

  • replied 3 years ago

I like the darker ones more too, since the seam isn't as obvious. Your poses make me smile :)

  • unfrumped replied 3 years ago

I think they work and it’s interesting to see the different colors on you because it’s like “ color- draping “ for color palette- I wonder if you are more on the “ cool” side.
I do think a style where there is some slight shaping below the bust, more at your natural waist, but still very summery and breezy, would look great, but I have found dress- shopping SO hard ( fit, fabric, length, color, on and on) that these can be a HEWI. Maybe keep a couple of your favorite colors and save some room to add another style if it turns up.
I think you do the dress- sneakers look perfectly and should try more of that for sure.

Runcarla. I love the link so much I have plenty that I can pull to copy the style. Thank you for the visual inspiration.

Hey everyone thank you for your help. I have decided to keep all of them check for some better bras and style them up

I’ve read everything and you all and my vocal 4 year old has inspired me not to give up.
