Freebrid....Singing in the Dead of night......

I
"Blackbird"

Freebird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Freebird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Freebird fly
Freebird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

Freebird fly
Freebird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Freebird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

I'm really stretching the Song.  I thought I would just use it for 3 reasons.  I am addicted to the Freebird Fierce Shoe Boot Thingy and I love the Song and Sir Paul McCartney.

I just cannot justify or spend that type of money on this beautiful thing.  That has My name written all over it.  Urban Warrior Gallant Apocalyptic  Queen.

I've always loved "Blackbird."  In fact, it always brings tears up.  I've always wondered what the story behind it was.

Freebirds are the kind of shoe that inspires songs!  Keep watching the op shops, I have a feeling a pair will show up, just for you.

  • viva replied 7 years ago

Xtabay: This is what Paul McCartney had to say about the song, which I also love and find very moving. "I wrote it in the '60s, when the civil rights movement was at its height. I liked to think of a blackbird as being a kind of symbol for a black woman."

LeDonna: I know what you mean about those shoes. They are a sweet penny. I hope someday you walk into a thrift shop and there is a pair waiting for you.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Ledonna, I' m sure that someday you will find these Freebirds for resale.

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

This is great! I also love those shoes but alas they will never be in my closet. Thank you for reminding me of that song,I'm a big fan.

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

A good song is timeless. I usually don't like remakes but I thought this was done so well. If it size 11w come into the op shop then it must be love.....do do do do. It must be love...occasionally I breakdown out into song while typing. Lol

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Janet that is such a rough beautiful version of the song.  I'm gonna be searching all weekend for the song.  She has a great voice

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

I'm glad you like it. She was in the group Arrested Development back in the day. I think I still have a copy of her solo CD around. I used to play her way back when I had a radio show that was all-female musicians. She had a pretty big hit with this one:

Such a host of different experiences.

Janet I remember her and the song. It was all over the radio back in the day.

  • Sally replied 7 years ago

I'm really enjoying the poems and lyrics. Great shoes......I can see you wearing them.

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Thanks Sally. I'm on the affordable hunt for them. Also I love music and poetry. Art. We all are so multidimensional.

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

I pretty much never click on YouTube links people send me...BUT y'all got me to and a whole bunch at that. I have had a nice musical evening here :D YLF fam indeed. You're gonna be surrounded in shoes, Ledonna :) Lol

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Affordable shoes hopefully Rachylou. Music is the universal language. I love it all well most of it. When I was a kid I watched musicals on TV 7 brides for 7 brothers, singing in the rain, yentel sound of music. I was "that girl" growing up. Lol

  • rachylou replied 7 years ago

And Carousel and Music Man and and and...! Lol. But boy are those some traditional movies from so looong ago. I have this picture in my head of little kids sitting in front of tube tvs all around the country watching these old movies and it weirds me out. Because that's old fashioned too now. Lol!

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

Oh those shoes are fab! You're right....they've got your name written All Over Them!

I hope someone can find a 11W for you!

    Brilliant songs! Keep them coming!

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Those are nice but not quite it for me. I like the substantial coverage of freebird

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

I think Mochi &/or Shedev have them:-)

  • Mochi replied 7 years ago

    I do! :)

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

    Haha, crossposted with you, Mochi:-))

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Rachylou those are all great musicals which reminded me of the stepford wives. Or the Borg from Star Trek. No independent thoughts.

I know I've seen Mochi wearing my dream shoes.

  • Mochi replied 7 years ago

    Purchase inspired by Janet, though!

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

Will keep eyes open for you Ledonna. Somehow this community HAS to find you something that will work for you!

Blackbird is one of those great songs Paul M wrote that transcends all eras...it's just a simple little song that can be sung in lots of different styles. The civil rights meaning is what he intended but it can also be taken very simply as about freedom in general. The fact that such a simple songs brings tears to many people's eyes is a testament to Sir Paul's immense creativity.

Another interesting thing about it is that the guitar part  was inspired by a JS Bach piece written for lute.

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Oh when work calms down I will go research maybe at lunch time.  "
JS Bach piece written for lute.

"  Thank you Chris  I am one of those that heard it as a kid and cried and cried my dad listening to all kinds of music.  So yeah I was an emotional mess.  I love that different artist are inspired by Sir Paul.

On a separate note.  The Fam are going to find this shoe I just know it.

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

The Cirque performance to this song in "Love" is beautiful. As are the shoes!

And did you know Sir Paul apparently can't read sheet music?

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

LeDonna just look for the wikipedia entry on "Blackbird the Beatles Song". It names the bach piece and has a bunch of other fascinating info.

  • Sara L. replied 7 years ago

I love those shoes too and they are also way too spendy for me.  :(

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

Yah Sir Paul cannot read or write music in the formal sense, he never learned how.  He composed a work for orchestra and chorus in 1991 called Liverpool Oratorio, where he played what he wanted to hear on the piano and his collaborator wrote it down in musical notation.  I saw a documentary that showed the process...it took a lot longer that way but it was the only option.  Pretty amazing all around.

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

We are all so smart! It matters naught if Sir Paul can read music or not. My Gram was a self taught student of the piano and organ by ear.. It is just remarkable to share his influence and information.

Those shoes will be mine at least in my dreams. Everyone looks so cool on them
