A parade, a park, and prayer...

Good morning everyone as always I hope this post finds you all well.

This weekend as most were filled with rest relaxation excitement and for us Church. We started off on a very high note on Saturday was our annual Bud Billiken Day Parade. This is the 88th year of the parade and we celebrated watching the entire parade that stretches for 3 miles.

Essentially it is a back-to-school parade and this year's Grand Marshal was Chance the Rapper a well-known local and International rap artist who has become famous for being a wonderful generous entrepreneurial person and helping the Chicago public school system with donations of funds and finances. Well we didn't get any pictures of us we did get many pictures of the parade so I'll include those in here. Chance the Rapper also handed out 33,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. He also handed out free tickets to his concert to teachers and fathers for their children and did a free concert that evening.

Sunday as usual we went to our local church and had a phenomenal time as we always do the dance filled with singing Praise. Zi'Joy is not smiling in any of these pictures. My poor little one was not really feeling well she started her vegetables this past week along with school she had a bit of a tummy ache by the end of Sunday all was well and she was back to smiles and laughter. I thought her serious face reminded me of me so much. I think she looks more like her father but these images capture who I am so well not that I'm always serious but the looks I can give.

The Bud Billiken Parade and Picnic is an annual parade held since 1929 in the Bronzeville/Washington Park neighborhoods of Chicago, Illinois, United States; it is the largest African-American parade in the nation.

On this day we both decided to wear leopard print. I in my drop waist leopard print peplum top and Zi'Joy in her leopard print pants. Because baby girl was not feeling so well I decided to try and keep her outfit simple without being constricting so everything was very flexible it was kind of cool so she wore a beautiful sweater top which was pink and had a heart on it and her new pink booties her first and she is actually decided to keep these on. I was in a pinstripe pants denim jacket and beautiful purple head wrap. The day was just beautiful so we decided to go to the park after church. Our park is so ginormous you never see the same thing twice very beautiful and very lovely to walk in so we just enjoyed the day.

Please pray for everything that is happening in the United States and around the world so many things that are affecting so many people so many tragedies. That's why I include the prayer as this is a fashion site I try not to get too involved in Daily homegoings but I just needed to say that we are praying for all those who are involved in these tragic times.

Nice pictures as always! You and Zion Joy always look pretty and stylish. I like little Joy very much with that big flower on her head! And what a good guy that Chance is. I agree with you that in this crazy era the world needs prayers .

Your posts never fail to bring a smile to my face.

Yes, we live in unsettling times and the world could use more prayers.

You both look splendid. The parade sounds great- what a good idea.

I was sad and angry about the weekend events in Charlottesville. A very tragic day.

I love the combo of your leopard top with those flared pants. You look great!

I appreciate you mentioning the real world. You spread love, it seems to me.

Love the leopard on both of you. Darling.
What happened this weekend was unacceptable and disturbing. It is nice to escape into YLF, but this tragedy and the events/attitudes leading up to it must be acknowledged as well. Thank you as always for your words.

Great looks and lovely photos. Wow, 33,000 back packs. That is ALOT! 88th year is impressive also, as well as 3 miles. Gorgeous, what a celebration.

You both look great. Ahh, vegetables, I remember the change with DS.

You look smashing in leopard! What a beautiful outfit.
Poor little Zi'Joy, she doesn't look her usual happy self, sometimes it is hard being a baby isn't it! You are such a thoughtful mama to consider her most comfortable clothes when she is down. Glad to hear she was back to her best by Sunday.

Even as far away as Australia we have been troubled and upset by the tragic weekend in Charlottesville. Devastating.

Thank you for sharing your weekends with us. Your beautiful baby girl is growing so fast! Love your outfit and hers. She is lucky to have such a style maven mom.

I love your leopard tunic. It looks wonderful on you.

Yesterday our minister came to tears, talking about Charlottesville. A friend and I are going to a vigil tonight.

Ok, who was Bud? Y'all had a busy weekend! Great outfits of course.

I have admit, I don't know what to pray for exactly. I pray that this country really looks itself in the eye for once.

Zi'Joy's flower headpiece contrasted with her don't mess with me look is priceless. I hope she is feeling better. You are both fabulous!

Ledonna, you look beautiful and Zi'Joy is so adorable even when not feeling well. You are inspiring me to want to do more on weekends and take advantage of local events. Next year or the next that little sweetie will want to get into the pond with the frogs. Prayers for more understanding and an end to hate.

Such happiness and love! Otoh, what a world we're bringing our kids up in. Seeing your daughter cheer up by being in her mama's arms is delightful. Thanks for sharing.

You look smashing in your leopard tunic! I want one just like it! And yes that is some look on Baby Girl's face!

Tried watching a news report about Charlottesville, couldn't bear it. Went directly to the prayer step.

The pics of you two and your description of the event you attended are like balm for the soul!!  Thank you for sharing little bits of your and your little nugget's life with us.
Finding myself in almost constant prayer these days.  (And, yes, I know that should be the normal state of things, not just in time of crisis.....)
Hatred is despicable no matter where it takes place, but I am especially affected by the events of this past weekend seeing the images in beautiful Charlottesville where I lived at one time and know the streets and landmarks so well.
So glad to hear your little Zi'Joy is feeling better!

  • Ledonna N. replied 6 years ago

Thank you all for taking the time to read, comment or just look at the pictures.

Zi'Joy is feeling much better thank goodness I missed her smile while she was not feeling well .

I'm tired but reading your comments as well as post on the form gives me a bright spot.

Whatever your faith work or non faith I pray that we will see better days ahead.

Oh, Zi'Joy's serious face is so intense and adorable! Yesterday I was watching the music video for Chance The Rapper and Jamila Woods' song and kept thinking about how you do such an amazing job visually presenting the vibrancy and community life in Chicago. Heading to a city wide prayer service tomorrow night. Current events weigh the heavily on me as I regularly teach about race, ethnicity, and ethics. Even my "fun" lecture about a Indiana Jones and the Nazis feels way to close to reality right now. Also, saw a tweet by Lin Manuel Miranda. I think it was just a cute quote his little boy said when he woke up in the morning but wow does it feel appropriate and deep right now. "It's dark but it's not nighttime wake up!"

Your WIWs always make me smile.  That leopard print is lovely on you but what really caught my eye is the drape and shape to that top, it's perfection!
