A funeral, a Fleek Market & a Fair

Greetings family!

Time flies when you have baby. I keep wondering to myself where does all the time go. If I didn't take pictures I probably wouldn't remember half the things that I did. I mean I do sit and rest but it's nice to get out of the house. In the Chi we take full advantage of the summer. In other words we gets it in for real.

So I had to attend a funeral this past weekend I must say that I really hate funerals. Maybe hate is a strong word I really dislike them. This one was 3 hours and some change. I didn't get a picture of my outfit but it was summer appropriate I think I'll recreate it for church on Sunday. I did do a quick change so this is what I wore.

I have mentioned the Fleek Market before. Basic explanation is that it's a flea market on steroids. It's one of the most happening events to me in our thrifting group I belong to. Just so happened to be right down the street from the funeral. After I paid my respects it was time to enjoy the day. So me and baby nugget and my sister and my niece got out into creation and enjoyed the fresh air. It was so beautiful not too hot not too cold but a nice little breeze blowing great friends great music and course great Thrifty deals.

As always baby seems to be center of attention which I did not mind at all. I was really casual the denim leggings I actually wore to the funeral but I kept them on changed into some tennis shoes and wore this pretty pink and white flowy top dress tunic thingy. Now for my head wrap it was actually the dress I wore last week I just took it a wrapped around my head. I just love great head wraps especially for summer I love brights as you all can see I love patterns and this was perfect for the day.

Baby nugget on the other hand is just a beautiful bundle of happy happy joy joy. She went all casual and cool and of course without Sox or shoes because let's face it she does not like them. On this day she didn't do an outfit change but baby girl wore this pretty Aqua dress onesie thing and of course her pretty little onesie her sun hat had hearts and hot pink. Dresses seem to be the running theme in her wardrobe I don't mind it cuz they're so cute. We have all types of onesies but, baby is growing so fast. She's three months now but she's wearing like 6 to 9 month clothing my little chunky baby.

Picture 6 through 11 are from a book fair Festival on Sunday so many artists and authors and music. We're going to call this selfie Sunday because well it's hard asking people to take pictures of your outfit anyway it was a nice outfit and I'll get pictures one day. But of course a head wrap was in the order. I'm getting a little bit tired of my Afro but I don't want to cut it so we do head wraps. Baby girl just had an absolutely happy time this is bet happy face. I'm enjoying her so much she just puts a smile on my face. The apples were from a garden that was dedicated to Michelle Obama and they were selling them for $0.25 a piece and I love this artist mural of Kanye West not a big fan but the mural was really awesome. And last but not least a picture in selfie Sunday of us in front of our new church home. we finally found ourselves a church home. I've been with the same church for 15 years but it was time to move on this is our sister Church and just took a quick selfie to snap our joy and to remember the moment.

As usual all are welcome commenters lurkers or just say hi. I hope you have a great week and I'll check in when I can.

Oh  my gosh your baby really is a little bundle of JOY! She is so happy and carefree. And look at you too, mama! Looking great. Love the bright pink on both you and her.

  • Summer replied 6 years ago

Gorgeous, vibrant pictures as usual, Ledonna.  You and Little Nugget both look so happy and bright.  I love both your outfits in 1 - 5 especially: ZJ's aqua outfit is so pretty.

  • Style Fan replied 6 years ago

The Fleek Market sounds like a fascinating place.  Baby nugget is adorable as always.  Love both of your outfits.
Sorry about the funeral.  Understandable about not liking them.

Brilliant outfit and head wraps. Zi'Joy is havin' a blast. Wide awake now!

Such beautiful pictures of you and your little one! She looks interested in everything around her, she is fun just like her mommy.
11 is a very good picture, very artistic.

Wow! Enjoying the warm weather with your cutie rocks! You both look fab and she is growing fast. Love you in that hot pink and white top. So much summer.

  • approprio replied 6 years ago

You look amazing as ever and ZJ is coming along! I love that pink/white number and I want a closer look at the mesh top in 12.

So sorry about the funeral. Nobody likes funerals :(

That sweet bundle of joy puts a smile on all our faces, as do your posts. It makes me feel guilty that I do not get out as much as I should to enjoy the festivals. Last weekend we went to an evening art walk with music and food trucks. The next day was a bigger art fair that was on the addenda but DH was arted out for the weekend so didn't go. Getting out with Zion'Joy is good for you both. Beautiful!

I love waking up and logging in to find another episode of the joyous and colorful "Ledonna and Zi'Joy's Weekend Adventures."

I love the photo of everyone gathered around her stroller, absolutely doting.  Baby Girl is lucky to have a mom who takes her out to such fun activities, and what looks like a great community of female role models.

Ledonna, you look so fresh and vibrant in that beautiful floral dress with your leggings and sneakers! Love it. Your daughter is lovely as always, too--that smile in 5 is too cute for words. I'm sorry you had to attend a funeral, and it's good to see you enjoyed the beautiful day afterwards.

  • Jane replied 6 years ago

Gorgeous photos, both looking well and happy. SO joyful! What a great community you have around you.

You both look beautiful, I can not figure out how you tied your dress as a headwrap so perfectly. Your photos are so communicative and I especially love the second one with everyone fussing over the baby, that's such a happy feeling.
Not a huge fan either, although I am respectful, but that Kanye mural photo is kind of fascinating.

Well thank you all so much.  As I like to say we get our life when we can.  There is so so so much to do in the Chi in the fullness of summer.  I love the name of "
Ledonna and Zi'Joy's Weekend Adventures."  It just makes me laugh.  Her smile and joy brings me such peace.  It is infectious I'm trying very hard to not have baby fever.

Your dress as a head wrap is brilliant!

Your posts are always so full of color and joy, Ledonna. And your baby is growing so fast. This is such a nice age!

  • frannieb replied 6 years ago

I hear ya on summer. Same here in MN. Love the outfits and you look beautiful in headwraps. Of course mini is gorgeous too.

    So much bright joy!

I always knew Nugget would have her Mama's zest for life and big smile. Your pink and white dress/tunic is beautiful, Ledonna and love the dress repurposed as headwrap.

Great pics again! Oh how I long for sunny weather here in the winter, it is very grey at the moment. We've had the odd sunny day. I love that name for your adventures. Zi'Joy is growing so fast and you both look so bright and happy x

All really great pics but #7 lit up my morning, you both look so happy and beautiful.

  • Ledonna N. replied 6 years ago

This is our Wednesday morning and since I start to late shift at work today we decided to have breakfast out on the porch this morning at 6:40 this beautiful Wednesday morning.

Thank you for checking out our pictures and our adventures. Zion is a happy baby and she adds to the fullness of my joy until we meet again be well.

  • Jenni NZ replied 6 years ago

Another lovely pic Ledonna! I do love your Afro hairstyle. It looks kind of statuesque? Did you say you don't want to cut it so you cover it up a lot? Don't you like its look uncovered??
ETA I looked back see you are getting a bit tired of it. Guess I get that. I get kind of tired of my pixie too after short hair since I was 34, now 56 so 22 years. But can't think of something else I could bear to grow out or that would suit me so well and be easy to look after.

  • Laura G replied 6 years ago

Baby Girl is scrumptious with those fat little legs and that little pink hat!

  • replied 6 years ago

    You and ZJ are gorgeous.
Your head wrap is amazing...I love the colours.
Amazing style! And ZJ is so so cute.

  • bridgie replied 6 years ago

I see so much art here.

For some reason I really like pic # 4 of Zion-Joy and you. :)

  • Ledonna N. replied 6 years ago

Bridgie- babies give the most amazing looks. I know it's not on purpose but I love capturing those looks those are my favorite

Jenni NZ me and my hair have a long and complicated history. I love my natural hair. I love the shapes and designs of the textures of it. I've done a post with the evolution of my hair and styles that I have had. I've done everything from high-top Fades to kitten play haircut to shaving it completely bald and even wearing dreadlocks. When I want to stop myself from cutting it I usually wrap it up. Not only are head wraps and expression of who I am I feel like it's a part of a tradition as an African American that was handed down.

  • Jenni NZ replied 6 years ago

Yes I can see that esp with reading your other thread about the head wraps. They are beautiful and clearly culturally important. I think I was trying to express my appreciation of the uncovered hair also as I found that beautiful and queenly- looking. Love little Z-J's head wraps! So cute.
Think hair is not that culturally important to me. Not entirely sure what is? Feel some embarrassment from being descended from early white settlers of this country who collectively caused huge damage to the native people who were here and to the environment? But that is who I am from, can't help it... an odd situation to be in.

  • JuniperGreen replied 6 years ago

Beautiful - thank you for sharing!  And I loved your post on wraps too.  Consider my mind blown that your wrap is a repurposed dress!!!

  • replied 6 years ago

Thanks for sharing, and for explaining what a fleek market is. Baby Nugget is adorable as usual.

  • replied 6 years ago

Oh Ledonna that PHOTO of you two laughing is TOO much!! Another frameable!

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

You Chi community is your FAMILY. WOW.

  • Ledonna N. replied 6 years ago

Thank you all so much.  It is a beautiful thing.  The my family the family that we choose to surround ourselves with and the laughter shared.  It is choosing to be in a better place eliminating negative energy that helps me to maintain my joy and peace in the moment.  I'm thankful to this community for being with me on that journey.
